1. Do we have homework in first grade?

Yes, students will have reading homework every night (including weekends) and Math homework 3 nights a week. No homework will be assigned on PTA meeting nights. Always check the schedule in the D.O.G. (Daily Organization Guide) or Homework folder.
2. How do I know what my child has for homework?

A new homework schedule is handed out every Monday. The schedule includes a calendar with weekly assignments and any important information I feel you need to know. Please check the schedule nightly.
3. How will the teacher and parents communicate?

Graded work is sent home weekly in the Tuesday folder. Students receive a homework schedule every Monday to keep in their Homework folders. Updates are posted on my teacher webpage and on the class blog. Monthly newsletters will be sent home and made available online. (I also have a bulletin board next to the classroom where I post lunch menus, conference schedules, etc.) I am available to talk on the phone during my planning time and after school. I also check my e-mail several times a day. Keep updated on class events via twitter @peasefirstgrade.
4. May a parent call during class time?

I am happy to talk to parents for a very short time (2-3 minutes maximum) during class time. If you wish to talk at length, please call during my planning time or e-mail me and set up a time after school to talk.
5. What kind of shoes should my child wear to school?

Gym shoes (sneakers) are required on days we have P.E. However, children should always wear comfortable running shoes because we run laps every day on the north playground.
