Current Opportunities

Police Communications Specialist

Position requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D, and graduation from DPS Communications School. Prefer incumbent to have TCLEOSE Police Communication Certification and TCIC/NCIC Operator Certification. Must be able to handle multiple duties simultaneously and respond to interruptions. Must work flexible hours to include all shifts; nights, weekends, and holidays, and accept on-call duty status and sit for long periods of time. Type at least 35 wpm.

Incumbent monitors phone and radio communications as well as alarm systems and dispatches Police Officers or maintenance workers as required. Screen and direct phone calls.

Salary $29,334.24-$36,119.20, depending on experience and qualifications.

Police Officer I and II

Patrols District property (approx. 120 locations) to protect all AISD students, personnel, and visitors (approx 100,000 daily) from physical harm and to protect property loss to the District due to theft or vandalism.

TCLEOSE certification required. Applicant must pass a written entrance exam, a physical agility test, a background investigation and an oral review board.

Salary $39,000.00-$63,225.76 depending on experience and qualifications. Monthly certification pay for license above Basic and educational degrees.

An applicant must be a U. S. Citizen and be eligible to be commissioned as a Peace Officer in the State of Texas. Applicants must be of high moral character, good physical and mental condition, and not possess a criminal history. Applicants should have a good driving record, be eligible for a Texas Driver's License, exhibit good writing and communication skills.

The application process consists of five phases, a physical fitness test, written examination, weapons assessment, background investigation and an interview before an oral board.

Phase One: The applicant will be required to successfully complete an obstacle course consisting of clearing a 2 foot wall, a 4 foot wall, climbing stairs, going through a window, clearing a six foot chain link fence, and running around and through a culvert pipe. The distance of the course is approximately a quarter of mile. Qualifying time will be 2.40 minutes.

Phase Two: The applicant will be required to pass a written examination that assesses math skills, reading comprehension, grammar and writing skills.

Phase Three: The applicant will be required to perform 70% proficiency on basic course of fire requirements.

Phase Four: Applicants must pass a background investigation in order to move to the fifth and final phase.

Phase Five (Final) Prior to sitting before the hiring board, applicants will be asked to submit a writing sample for review. Once before the board, applicants will be asked questions by the members of the oral board. The applicant will be rated on his or her communication skills, appearance, and writing skills.

Applicants will be required to pass phases one through three on the initial day of testing to be passed onto the background investigation phase. Failure to satisfactorily perform any portion of the test will result in disqualification.
