Eclectic Grammy-Winning Musical Group to Inspire Reagan High Students with Music and "Positivity"
February 16, 2011 - The Latin, hip hop, and salsa musical group “Ozomatli” will bring its unique music and positive messages to students at Austin’s Reagan High School, on Wednesday, February 16, at 1:30 p.m.
Ozomatli (“Ozo” for short), is an eclectic nine-member, three-time Grammy-award and two-time Billboard Latin Award winning band. Ozomatli was born from the desire to inspire the younger generation, spreading a message of peace and unity.
The group travels internationally and is one of the most successful Latin bands in the world. Its positive messages earned an invitation from the U.S. State Department to serve as official Cultural Ambassadors on a series of government-sponsored tours to Asia, Africa, South America, and the Middle East — tours that linked Ozomatli to a tradition of cultural diplomacy that also includes esteemed former ambassadors such as Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Louis Armstrong.
Reagan students in the Digital Media Center will film the concert.
In 2008, Ozomatli performed at Travis High School, and the student audience called the performance ‘epic.’
