Andrews Teacher is Latest Austin Educator to Receive State Recognition
August 13, 2010 - Andrews Elementary School teacher Nancy Douglas was recently named as one of the state-level finalists in the 2010 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) program.
Ms. Douglas is a veteran teacher who began her teaching career in 1993. She obtained her Associate Degree in Fashion Merchandising from Kilgore College and her BBA in Business Administration from the University of North Texas. After a seven-year career in the fragrance/cosmetic industry, she obtained her teaching certification in 1992, after completing her studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is certified to teach grades 1 thru 8, and began her teaching career as a 4th grade teacher at Andrews. She subsequently moved to 5th grade, a position she currently holds. Ms Douglas was the Andrews Teacher of the Year in 1999.  
 
As a state-level finalist, Ms. Douglas becomes a candidate for the national-level Presidential Award. Ms. Douglas is the second AISD teacher to be named a finalist. Lorene Wallace of Bryker Woods is also a finalist. The White House is expected to announce the results of the national selection process in the Spring 2011.
