AISD Administration Seeks Public Comment on Pearce Redesign & Reassignment Proposal
May 27, 2010 - The Austin Independent School District administration will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday, June 2, on the proposed Pearce Middle School Redesign & Reassignment Proposal. The Redesign & Reassignment Proposal was presented to the Board of Trustees on Monday, May 24, to continue “whole-school” improvements for Pearce Middle School.
The Public Hearing on June 2 will take place from 5:15-6:15 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Carruth Administration Center, located at 1111 West Sixth Street. Citizens may sign-up to speak at 5 p.m. Interpretation service will be available for Spanish-speaking attendees.
The intent of the Redesign & Reassignment Proposal is to support early college preparation at the middle level at Pearce.
The enhanced vision for Pearce would begin with the 2010-2011 school year. Pearce would enroll rising 7th and 8th Grade students, but it would not enroll any rising 6th Grade students. The District will honor any approved transfers to other middle schools, but those students would also have the option to stay at the neighborhood elementary school that they currently attend. There would be no 6th Grade classes at Pearce for 2010-2011.

There will also be a Public Meeting on the proposal at Pearce from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1. That meeting will take place in the Pearce Cafeteria, located at 6401 North Hampton Drive.
Also, there will be meetings on either Tuesday, June 1, or Wednesday, June 2, at each of the five elementary schools that “feed” to Pearce. Those schools, and the date upon which they will hold their campus meeting, are:
