Community Leaders Co-Chair Fine Arts Tribute to Dr. Pat Forgione
May 20, 2009 - Four long-time Austin community leaders — Kirk Watson, Carole Keeton Strayhorn, Gus Garcia, and Charles Akins — will co-chair the Forgione Follies, a Fine Arts tribute to outgoing AISD Superintendent, Dr. Pat Forgione.
The Forgione Follies will be staged Wednesday, May 27, at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, and will feature musical entertainment by Austin choir, band, orchestra, and theatre students of all grade levels. There will also be a display and silent auction of student artwork.  
 
Kirk Watson is a State Senator and former Austin Mayor. Carole Keeton Strayhorn is a former Austin Mayor, Texas State Comptroller, and AISD Trustee. Gus Garcia is a former Austin mayor, member of the Austin City Council, and AISD Trustee; and Charles Akins is a venerable and long-time AISD educator who retired in 2000.  
 
Dr. Forgione is retiring this summer, after leading the Austin School District for a decade.  
 
Proceeds of the Forgione Follies will support the “Pat Forgione Leadership Legacy Fund” of the University of Texas Principalship Program. Community sponsorships are currently being secured.  
 
UT Principalship Program participants earn a master’s degree in Educational Administration, as well as Professional Principal Certification. Program graduates consistently achieve high passing rates on the state certification exam, and acquire administrative leadership positions at a rate that is nearly twice the state average. TICKET INFORMATION  
There are a few tickets still available but the online process has ended. Please contact Pat Dabbert at pdabbert@austinisd.org or 414-3992 to request a ticket.  
 
All online requests for tickets to the Forgione Follies received as of 8:30 am on Wed. May 20 have and will be assigned tickets.  
 
Tickets were mailed beginning on Monday, May 18 and the last group will be mailed out today, May 20. They should arrive no later than Friday, May 22.  
If you do not receive your ticket by this Friday, May 22, please contact Pat Dabbert at pdabbert@austinisd.org or 414-3992 to check on the mail date.  
 
TIME: The main program is from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., pre-show entertainment on the front plaza and silent art auction in the lobby begin at 5:00 p.m.
