Bowie and Akins Earn Journalism Awards
February 11, 2011 - The Bowie High School student newspaper, the Lone Star Dispatch, was recently awarded a Gold Star by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, a national organization whose membership includes more than 4,000 high school newspapers.
The Lone Star Dispatch received the highest rating possible for work in its editions of the 2009-2010 school year. The prestigious Gold Star Award was given for a critique score of 920 points out of a possible 1000 points for the six issues that Bowie published last year. The editor of the newspaper at the time was 2010 graduate Lauren Stansel. Newspaper advisor is Donna Marie Miller.
Also, the Bowie High School Yearbook, the Lone Star, of 2009-2010, also received Gold Star honors, with the staff under the supervision of Deanna Dellana. Akins High School also received a Silver Medal from Columbia Scholastic Press Association for the Akins Aerie yearbook of 2009-2010. The advisor is Michael Reeves. [ Go Back ] |
