January 6, 2011 - The Austin Independent School District’s Department of Advanced Academic Services announced today that nominations for gifted and talented spring screening for elementary level students has begun, and will continue through the end of the month.

Parents are encouraged to contact their school's GT Advocate for nomination information. Nominated students are screened at the school using a variety of measures which include: academic and gifted characteristic checklists/scales, standardized tests of cognitive abilities, and portfolios of exemplary work. Bilingual students are administered the Bilingual Verbal Abilities Test, which replaces tests that are English-dependent.
