February 1, 2010 - Austin School Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen will meet with community business, civic, education, and non-profit leaders to enlist their support and participation in implementing key provisions of the School District’s newly-adopted 2010-2015 Strategic Plan.

This Community Summit will be held beginning at 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3, in the multipurpose room of Austin Community College’s Eastview Campus, located at 3401 Webberville Road.  
 
Dr. Carstarphen will marshal the Power of Us — the Austin community working together — to achieve bold, innovative, and remarkable things in Austin schools. Year One Priorities in the Strategic Plan include:

• Improve student attendance.
• Increase high school completion rates.
• Strengthen support for highly effective teachers.
• Improve delivery of Special Education services.
• Create a Dual Language Program.
• Improve data systems and technology.
• Conduct long-range facility planning.
• Help students and families access social services.

 
“If we work together and implement this plan, we can close achievement gaps, prevent students from dropping out, and raise the achievement level for all students,” Dr. Carstarphen said. In addition to invited guests, the Community Summit is open to the public.
