Community Safety Task Force

Mission

The Austin Independent School District will engage in a comprehensive process-in partnership with parents, community leaders and the Texas School Safety Center (TSSC) at Southwest Texas State University-to enhance the safety of AISD students, staff and the community at all district campuses and facilities by:

  • Promoting respectful interactions among all stakeholders;
  • Creating a comprehensive safety plan that includes a thorough assessment of needs, prevention, intervention, and recovery; and
  • Closely tracking data for greater accountability.

Task Force Charge

The Community Safety Task Force with advice and consultation from TSSC will:

  • Collect, analyze and disseminate data relevant to AISD safety;
  • Review District Policies relevant to safety;
  • By July 18, provide safety data and support for assessing campus needs and provide each campus with a checklist for a Campus Safety Plan and procedures;
  • By July 18, provide each campus with a list of resources to support campus development of its safety plan and procedures;
  • By July 18, provide each campus with templates to use in developing a Campus Safety Plan and report;
  • During September, convene a meeting of student representatives from each high school to discuss school safety;
  • Review and analyze campus safety reports during the months of September & October;
  • Formulate a comprehensive AISD Safety Plan;
  • Present a recommended plan to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees by October 31; and
  • Meet periodically with the Superintendent for the next year to ensure implementation of the AISD Safety Plan following its adoption by the Board.
