Substitute Rates of Pay and Qualifications

Substitute Teacher Daily Rates

Minimum Requirement: 60 college hours

Qualifications Starting Base Rate
60 College Hours but less than a degree $75.00/day
College Degree $80.00/day
Texas Teaching Certificate $85.00/day
Incremental Pay
31-60 Days of Service add $20 /day to the base rate
61+ Days of Service add $40 /day to the base rate
Long Term Pay
Minimum of 20 days retroactive to the first day of working in the same teaching assignment add $20 /day to the base rate
Friday Bonus Pay
All substitutes will receive an additional $5.00/Friday for working in Subfinder on Fridays. $5.00 / Friday

Classified/Clerical Substitute Daily Rate

Classified/Clerical positions: teacher assistant, office staff, security guard, one adult assigned to one student, ISS monitor, or any position that does NOT involve working in place of the teacher.

Minimum Requirement: High School Diploma or GED

Base Rate $70.00/day
Incremental Pay
31-60 Days of Service add $10 /day to the base rate
61+ Days of Service add $20 /day to the base rate
Long Term Pay
Classified positions do not receive long-term pay.
Friday Bonus Pay
All substitutes will receive an additional $5.00/Friday for working in Subfinder on Fridays. $5.00 / Friday

Senate Bill 9, also known as the "Fingerprinting Bill" was signed into law by Governor Perry in the Fall of 2007. This bill requires that all substitute teachers and classified substitutes hired after January 1, 2008 undergo a national criminal history record information review by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Therefore, before you can be employed as a teacher substitute or classified substitute in Austin ISD, you will be required to provide your fingerprints to be checked against the national criminal history database.

IMPORTANT:

  • Do not start the fingerprinting process prior to notification from the Substitute Office.
  • Individuals who have already submitted fingerprints for the TEA criminal history review will not need to complete the process again for Austin ISD.

You will be required to pay the fees associated with the fingerprinting process. The cost is from $51.00 - $53.00 depending on method of payment.
