Finding a Counselor through your Major Medical Benefits
  • If you have a need to go through the district's major medical provider, BlueCross-BlueShield, and are yourself enrolled in BCBS, then you must call the number on the back of your BCBS identification card for access to counseling through your major medical benefits. On the back of your I.D. card, please notice that the phone number for mental health and chemical dependency treatment is different from the main BCBS phone number. For precertification and referral for these conditions, please call 1-800-528-7264. Prior to making the call, you may loggin to the BCBS website at: http://www.bcbstx.com/onlinedirectory/index.htm to do your own search of in-network mental health counseling providers for BCBS. Counseling sessions obtained through BCBS must be pre-authorized, and they have a $20 or $25 co-pay per visit (depending on your plan), up to a maximum of 30 visits per year.
