For official name changes, you must provide:

  • A social security card showing the new name
  • A valid photo ID (such as a driver's licence)

this information must be provided in person at the Office of Human Resources

If you change your address, phone number and/or name on official AISD records, you must also contact TRS separately to update the same information on their records. It is important to keep the records updated at both AISD and TRS.

Certification requirements for the position of Counselor in the Austin Independent School District are established by the State Board of Educator Certification. Individuals wishing to be employed as a Counselor must meet either the requirements for a permit or a certificate.

For Permit:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Completed 24 semester credit hours of graduate-level credit, including 12 semester credit hours in guidance and counseling
  • Have two (2) creditable years of classroom teaching experience in accredited K-12 school
  • A deficiency plan from an accredited graduate school documenting remaining course requirements
  • Permit will be requested by the Human Resources Dept. of AISD
