AISD Celebrates School Bus Driver's (Transportation Team) Appreciation Week: Oct. 19-23
Breakfast tacos, fresh oranges, and free trial memberships at a gym greeted Austin School District bus drivers and Student Transportation Services staff at the Saegert Terminal on Tuesday, October 21. The Superintendent's Office supplied the treats to the District's south and North Bus Terminals in recognition of School Bus Driver's Appreciation week October 19-23. Every school day, twice a day, bus drivers carry more than 20,000 Austin students to and from school, on 368 different routes. They drive in fair and foul weather, and have to maneuver through traffic regardless of road conditions, while also maintaining the conduct of the students on the bus. Transportation employees are also looked upon for leadership and life-saving decision-making in the event of an emergency. Their job is critical to many students' instructional day.

AISD Celebrates Custodial Appreciation Week: September 7-11
On Monday, September 7, 2009 - employees from Central Office and Garza High School joined Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen and Chief of Staff Karen Sperry to honor several AISD custodians (Leonard Benford, Carlos Garcia, Angelina Medrano, Maria Rendon, and Felicitas Salgado) as part of Custodial Appreciation Week. The custodians received praised for their dedication and hard work and were thanked for ensuring that AISD staff and students have a clean, safe environment to teach, learn, and work. The custodians were also serenaded with a variation of the song "Jolly Good Fellow."

Campuses throughout the District also celebrated their custodians in their own special way with surprise breakfasts, gifts, thank you cards, and appreciation posters designed by students.
