Part 2: Truancy - Truancy Filing Protocol SMART TIP: Student Withdrawals- AISD policy states that campus staff may initiate withdrawal procedures when a student has 10 consecutive unexplained (school day) absences and must initiate withdrawal of a student for nonattendance for 20 or more consecutive unexplained (school day) absences when student recovery has not been successful, and laws, rules and policies concerning compulsory attendance have been implemented. Consider performing withdrawals on established days when recruiters from alternative educational settings can be present. 1. This District may file a complaint against the parent(s)/guardian(s) and/or student in a justice or municipal court if a student is required to attend school and fails to do so without an excuse on 3 or more days or parts of days within a four-week period. 2. AISD must file a complaint against the parent(s)/guardian(s) and/or student in a justice or municipal court if a student is required to attend school and fails to do so without an excuse on 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same school year. 3. The District has only 10 school days to file a complaint in court after the last unexcused absence. Failure to file a complaint within 10 school days leads to dismissal of the complaint. |
