1. What is a School to Community Liaison?

School to Community Liaisons, often referred to as SCLs, are master degreed social workers, counselors, and/or teachers who provide a variety of services to students and families in need. SCLs assist families in accessing community as well as school services.

2. How does a student get referred to a School to Community Liaison?

Most referrals for SCL services come through campus Impact team meetings. When services are needed immediately or in times of crisis, referrals are made by principals or chairpersons of the Impact team.

3. What are some types of student issues that might be referred to School to Community Liaisons?

  • Any risk factors for dropping out
  • Peer acceptance and/or relationships
  • Attendance problems
  • Needs for social services (clothing, housing, medical, mental health, etc.)
  • Any other issues that cannot be effectively addressed in the regular school setting
