Project HELP (Homeless Education and Learning Program)
Updates & Announcements
- Due to the current economic hardship, Project HELP accessed for the 2009-2010 school year
additional funding beyond those grants normally received. These additional funds will allow
Project HELP to expand services to students and families experiencing homelessness.

- Project HELP SOCIAL WORK INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (2009-2010)
The internship program officially began Spring Semester of 2010. Currently, there are 8 graduate
level social work interns from the Social Work Program at the University of Texas who are serving a
total of 12 campuses. The objective of this program is to provide mental health services to at risk
students in the form of:
- individual and group counseling
- collaborate closely with campus personnel, parents and other caregivers to assist in
assuring wraparound services for the following schools:
Elementary: Cook, Hart, Williams, Kocurek, Pease, Sanchez, Brooke, Maplewood, Gullett,
Graham and Walnut Creek
High School: McCallum
- Project Help has added additional tutoring sites at two local shelters this year for a total of
three off campus tutoring programs. Those sites include: SafePlace, Salvation Army Emergency Shelter,
and Austin Women and Children's Shelter.
Project HELP will sponsor:
- Spring Empowerment on Saturday May 8th, 2010
- Back to School Empowerment on Saturday August 7th, 2010
