Parent University

The Department of Learning Support Services is pleased to offer you classes and workshops, which you have come to know as Austin Independent School District’s Parent University. Parent University is designed to give you knowledge and skills necessary to be a strong advocate in your child’s educational process.

At the high school level, many of the courses offered address the critically important issues related to academic success and preparation for life after high school. Please do not to wait until your child’s last year in high school to learn about post-secondary admissions requirements and financial aid. The earlier you have a command of that information, the better decisions you and your child will be able to make along the way to help your child graduate ready for college, career and life. Post-secondary education is imperative in today’s economy.

All classes are open to all AISD parents; we invite you to attend every session of interest regardless of the school hosting it. However, you should see staff on your student’s home campus for individual services and planning.

To see a listing of the events and workshops for the fall semester, click the Parent University link on the right hand menu.

Naviance Family Connection

What is “Naviance Family Connection”?

Naviance Family Connection allows counselors to share information with students and parents about upcoming meetings and events, local scholarship opportunities, and other web resources for two and four year colleges, athletics, military, and career information. Counselors and students can use e-mail to communicate through their Family Connection accounts. For additional information or questions about your Family Connections account or how to log in, please contact your school’s Project ADVANCE College Advisor.

Career & Technical Education (CTE)

Newly developed CTE courses have been aligned with the 16 Career Clusters. CTE aligns and supports core academic subjects. CTE programs lead to entry level employment or post secondary education/training. Students may have the opportunity to earn college credit in their high school articulated course(s). Data shows that students enrolled in CTE programs achieve academic success. Students enrolled in CTE programs also achieve greater academic success in post secondary education. Students enrolled in CTE programs have the opportunity to acquire technical skills that are needed to compete in the 21st century. In additions, students have the opportunity to gain industry certification. CTE programs engage and motivate students by offering them real world learning opportunities. For more information regarding the CTE programs at your high school contact a campus counselor.
