What does Communities In Schools do?

Communities In Schools (CIS) is a non-profit organization that strives to help young people be academically successful by providing school based social services and connections to needed community resources. CIS staff are located full-time on thirty-nine Austin Independent School District campuses and provide services such as counseling, crisis intervention, and educational support as well as leverage other resources from the community to address specific student needs.

What distinguishes CIS from other social service programs?

Communities In Schools is the ONLY full-time, campus-based social service program in Central Texas.

Has CIS been successful?

Yes! Of the nearly 5,000 served by Communities In Schools-Central Texas, Inc. last year for social and academic problems -- 99% stayed in school and 86% improved their academics, attendance, and/or behavior.
