Prekindergarten Program
Curriculum

The district curriculum for pre-kindergarten is closely tied to the guidelines issued by the State of Texas for all students. Prekindergarten students receive instruction in all of the areas of language and literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, technology, health, visual arts, music, and physical education to prepare them for success in kindergarten. Emphasis is placed on:

  • language and concept development
  • development of problem solving skills
  • promotion of interest and joy in learning
  • provision of ample opportunities for self-expression and divergent thinking
  • development of responsibility and self-control
  • promotion of feelings of security and success.

Prekindergarten teachers are provided a state-adopted curriculum that integrates subject areas and concepts throughout a strong literacy development program.

Prekindergarten curriculum require-ments are aligned with the District curriculum initiative, pre-K through grade 12. Pre-K is the foundation level of curriculum matrices for language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Instructional Planning Guides (IPG), written by early childhood educators, outline a sequence for instruction in each content area and are provided to be used by all pre-K teachers.
