Skills for Living

This comprehensive one-semester course provides opportunities to explore family relationships, personal development and management, and planning for the future. Emphasis is on the importance of the family; effective communication skills, management skills, decision-making, acceptance of responsibility, and childcare practices that promote positive development.

Other content addresses self-image, nutrition, wellness, personal appearance, and career options.

Technology Education

This course will increase the student's understanding of the development and use of technology. The course introduces bio-related technology, communications, computer applications, construction, energy, power, transportation, and manufacturing.

Hands-on problem solving activities may include designing and making products, assessing technology, constructing models of buildings, using computers, investigating solar energy, and using tools and machines.

Business Education

This course is designed to provide the students with keyboarding and computer navigation skills.

Develop psychomotor skills in operating the keyboard as well as achieving acceptable speed and accuracy levels; provides for instruction in formatting of basic documents for both personal and business use; provides opportunities for students to apply keyboarding skills in real-life situations; emphasizes master of touch control of keyboard characters, correct key stroking, and proper manipulations of operative parts and care of the machine; develops skill through a continuous program of selective practice based on diagnosis of individual needs; provides instruction in the production of letters, manuscripts, tabulations, business communications, reports and themes, and composition at the keyboard; and also includes skill development in proofreading, spelling, word division, and punctuation. Students will learn skills in word processing, presentation management and spreadsheet applications. Must be completed prior to entering high school.
